Mater Dei's young Wildcats raced
to a 21-0 first half lead and captured a sectional title defeating the North
Posey Vikings 28-7. Sophomore Cody Hess scored 3 touchdowns and the Mater
Dei defense continued to play well. Friday at 7:00 CST the Wildcats will
travel north to face the 12-0 Paoli Rams. The Rams are led by 4 year
starter Logan Laswell at quarterback. Paoli runs an option offense
and Laswell has rushed for over 1200 yards and 17 touchdowns.

The Mater Dei Wildcats will look
to rebound Friday from a tough defeat last week when they take on the Mt.
Vernon Wildcats. Mt. Vernon recorded their first ever school victory over
the Wildcats last year. It's been an up and down year for Mt. Vernon but
they have played some impressive football at times. Now is the time for
Mater Dei to step their game up as the tournament is approaching fast.
Look for Mater Dei to try and establish their running early.

Mater Dei looks to face
their biggest challenge of the season so far when they take on the Memorial
Tigers Friday night at Reitz Bowl. Memorial features an explosive passing
attack led by senior quarterback Grant Gribbens and senior wide receiver
Jonathan Wandling. Gribbens is a 4 year starter and led the Tigers to the
Class 3A state championship game last year. The Cats will need to play
more consistent and minimize on mistakes to stay in the game against the
Tigers.

The Wildcats won their 3rd
straight game against SIAC opponents Friday night with a 30-19 victory over the
Harrison Warriors. With the victory Mater Dei improved its record to 4-1
overall and 3-1 in the SIAC. Things look to get considerably harder Friday
night as the Wildcats host last year's 3A state runner up Memorial Tigers.

The Wildcats have gotten off to slow starts in the last 3 games, falling behind in each of them. They've been fortunate enough to rally back and win 2 of them. They will look to get off to a better start Friday night as they host the Harrison Warriors. First year coach Brian Lewis is trying to build the Warrior program from the ground up and his team has been playing hard this year even though there are no wins to show for it.

Mater Dei hangs on to defeat Bosse
Another game and another
nailbiter for the Wildcats. They once again came out victorious with a
21-20 victory. Bosse's speed and athleticism bothered the Cats but they
made a late defensive stand to hold of the hard charging Bulldogs and improved
their record to 3-1 on the year. The Wildcats have now won 15 straight
against Bosse.

Mater Dei will look to
keep the momentum going from their big win last week when they travel to Enlow
Field to take on the Bosse Bulldogs. Bosse may be the SIAC's most improved
team and feature one of the best players in the the SIAC in running
back Josh Pendleton. The Bulldogs are 1-2 on the year with losses to
North and Memorial. Their win came against Marshall County, KY
42-13.
Mater Dei leads the all-time series
against the Bulldogs 37-18-4 and have won 14 straight games against
them.

A week after losing a heartbreaker over the Central
Bears, Mater Dei got a touchdown run under 1 minute left in the game from
sophomore Cody Hess and went on to defeat the North Huskies 29-26. The
Wildcats were having a tough time on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the
ball for most of the game. In the end, the Wildcats depth prevailed and
they made the plays late in the game that escaped them the week before. Up
next are the improved Bosse Bulldogs at Enlow Field Friday night.

The Mater Dei Wildcats look to rebound from a tough loss last week as they travel to Central Stadium to take on the North Huskies. The Huskies are coming off a loss of their own to Henderson County, KY and always play the Wildcats tough. North has a lot of talent and good size and will be a formidable foe for Mater Dei. The Wildcats will look to clean up some mistakes that hurt them last week.

After scoring first in overtime on a 1 yard TD run by quarterback Dane Maurer and getting the extra point, the Wildcats needed to keep the Bears out of the endzone to preserve a victory. It was not to be, as Central got a 10 yard TD run and successful 2pt. conversion to pull of a dramatic 36-35 win. Mater Dei played a good game, particularly in the second half but made too many mistakes that ultimately hurt their chances of winning the game. MD will get a chance to bounce back Friday night as they travel to Central Stadium to take on the North Huskies.

A big early season showdown awaits Friday as the Wildcats take on the Central Bears. These two teams have played some great games over the last few years as the Bears have won the last 3 meetings. The running back tandem of Jaleel Fox and Tyrece Strong has proved to be a force for Andy Owen's squad. The Wildcats will look for more consistency from their offense as they look to gain a big victory over the Bears.

The Mater Dei Wildcats football team found success in their season opener against Union County, KY concentrating on the most important aspect of the game - the point of attack. The Wildcats won the battle on the offensive and defensive lines, leading to a potent ground attack on offense and a suffocating defense. Although they didn't cash in on all their scoring opportunities and great field position, it was a good start for a team relying on a considerable amount of underclassmen. They meet another formidable opponent Friday when the Central Bears pay a visit in the home opener.

This year's MD team could be one of the youngest fielded in quite some time. The freshman team last year went undefeated and a lot of the sophomores this year should push the upperclassmen for playing time.
